You can upgrade to RH9 from any RH version.
Thats the beauty of upgrading in RH.
You have the also check the release notes to see if a package has been deprecated
and also do a 'find /etc -name "*.rpmnew"' to check for new configuration files that
need to be updated.

I've been looking into upgrading a 7.2 machine of mine to 9 machine
also. I was able to do it on a test machine with apt-rpm with only one
reboot. (The real box is a remote machine and I'm very hesitant to
reboot it.) The only real hitch was having to go to 7.3 before going to
9.

Isn't upgrade (7.1 -> 9) supported by Red Hat via CD installation?

I ask it because I plan to upgrade a 7.1 system to 9 very soon, and I am
sure a lot of people will start upgrade since 7.x errata support will
end this December, no?

Thanks.
