r u trying local or network/remote printer ?
when u start printtool is it detecting the printer ?
is the line alias 'parport_lowlevel parport_pc' present in your
/etc/modules.conf file.
check the /var/spool/lpd directory for any unwanted/old printer
directories.
delete unwanted dir's and reconfigure with printtool

Also try reading Printing-HOWTO and Printing-Usage-Howto from tldp.org
