If you use procmail, here's a recipe that I've used before:

   :0 Whc :vacation.$LOCKEXT
   * !^From:.*vladimir@xxxxxxx
   * !^From:.*root@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
   * !^From:.*root@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
   * !^List
   * !^Precedence: bulk
   * !^Precedence: junk
   * !^Precedence: list
   * !^X-List
   * !^X-Loop: Vladimir G. Ivanovic <vladimir@xxxxxxx>
   * !^X-Mailman
   * !^X-RHN
   * !^X-Topica
   | (formail -rI"Precedence: junk" \
      -A"From: Vladimir G Ivanovic <vladimir@xxxxxxx>" \
      -A"Reply-To: Vladimir G Ivanovic <vladimir@xxxxxxx>" \
      -A"X-Loop: Vladimir G Ivanovic <vladimir@xxxxxxx>"; \
      echo "I'm away and won't have access to email until 09 June 2003."; \
      echo -n "I'll reply to your email when I return."; \
      cat $HOME/.signature \
   ) | $SENDMAIL -oi -t

It's derived from the example in procmailex(5).
