it was just an off-the-cuff comment, based on the observation that
the kernel folks have started using the "v2.6" directory over at
kernel.org for their test kernels.  no big deal.

p.s.  would it be a big deal to toss in a symlink so that we could
refer to it either way?  again, not a big deal.
