I have a notebook with Windows Xp. This PC works connected both to my office network and my home network.
At work I can print from this PC to any printer on the network, in particular on a Epson 810 that is connected to a Linux box with RedHat 8.0
At home I have a Epson C70 connected to a Linux box with RedHat 9, but I can't print on the Linux printer
Are you using cups for printing in RH9?
When I switched from 8 to 9, I decided to go with cups. My windows machines wouldn't print.
After messing around with samba for a while with no success, I checked the /var/log/cups/error_log and found the answer to my problem.
In /etc/cups/mime.convs (near end of file) I had to uncomment:
application/octet-stream application/vnd.cups-raw 0 -
And in /etc/mime.types (near end of file) I had to uncomment:
application/octet-stream
to enable raw print file support.
Don't know if your problem is the same.
Good luck! Doug
Your advice was really great. Tnx very much.
It worked immediately: only one small remark, you have to uncomment application/octet-stream in /etc/cups/mime.types and not in /etc/cups/mime.types
I wonder why this trick is not clearly shown in RedHat documentation: it is not uncommon that you have Windows machines connected to a RedHat 9 Linux box.
I hope that this can help other users.
Tnx again
Regards Antonio
