Session management in KDE for rh9

I just upgraded from RH8 to RH9. The upgrade went well except for two
things.

1. Before, with RH8, on logout of KDE, I had the option to save the
session. There was a checkbox available, "Save session for future
logins." Now, with RH9, the checkbox is missing and the sessions are
not being saved. I've searched through all the KDE configuration but I
can't find where to reinstate this option. Anyone point me to the
right direction?

2. With RH8, I had the RH Network (up2date) icon displayed on the
panel. After the upgrade, the icon doesn't appear. In fact the whole
RHN network alert doesn't appear to work. Up2date works fine, but not
the icon. I killed and restarted rhn-applet-gui numerous times and
still no icon. I can see the process using top, but it doesn't appear
to work. Any pointers here?

Thanks,

Mike W
