Never mind, I think I fixed it. Had to pass 'hdd=ide-scsi' to the kernel
in grub, then cdrecord -scanbus worked. Before passing the ide-scsi
parameter I tried 'cdrecord -scanbus dev=ATAPI' and that showed the CD
Writer, too. I've already burned a good test CD.
