I am running Redhat 9 on an Athlon 800 MHz machine, ASUS A7V motherboard, 256 MB memory. Previously the machine was running RH 7.1 and 7.2 and was very stable. After installing RH 9 the machine became considerably less stable and after few hours of work it often freezes and has to be rebooted. I hoped to improve the stability by installing the newer kernels from RH updates, last one being kernel-2.4.20-19.9. However, with these kernels the machine was totally unusable, very often freezing in less than 1 min after login, forcing me to get back to the original kernel-2.4.20-8. Does anybody have an idea what can be going so much wrong with the updated kernels ? Thank you very much in advance, Roman Martonak. -- Dr. Roman Martonak Tel: +41(91) 610 8226 Swiss Center for Scientific Computing Fax: +41(91) 610 8282 Via Cantonale - Galleria 2 E-mail: martonak@xxxxxxx CH-6928 Manno, Switzerland WWW: http://www.cscs.ch/ -- Shrike-list mailing list Shrike-list@xxxxxxxxxx https://www.redhat.com/mailman/listinfo/shrike-list
