Thanks to those who recommend Orinoco cards, but that's specifically
the card that's problematic, because new Orinoco have a different
internal chipset (Hermes II) which doesn't work under Linux without
hacking if they work at all.   They still call them Orinoco Silver and
Gold cards, they just don't work.

Unless someone has information to the contrary, I don't think Orinoco
cards are the way to go.
