I installed Windows 98 in an empty DOS partition on this RH-9 computer and of course it now boots to Windows instead of letting Grub offer the usual choice of operating systems. How do I repair the damage?

IF you made a boot floppy during your install, boot from that. Then, look at your /boot/grub/grub.conf file and see if it looks correct. You can even add a section for the new DOS partition to dual boot to it.

Then, as root execute

/sbin/grun-install /dev/hda

to overwrite the MBR with the grub boot record.

If you didn't make a boot floppy, the rescue mode of the kernel on CD-1 may save you.

Hope this helps.
