Maybe investigate the LTmodem (http://www.heby.de/ltmodem). I've just
installed the driver for the Lucent chipset in my laptop and at the end
it has the word XIRCOM.

No idea if it's what you need but there's a link for you to spend some
time researching- failing that - http://www.linmodems.org/
