Kernel 2.5/2.6 is material under developement and testing, for now.
There is no Red Hat supported implementation available. Maybe it solves
your problem (don't remember, what it has been), but will very likely
arise a lot of other probs. 

Current Red Hat supported kernel is of version 2.4.20-19.9. You should
upgrade to that version using RHN, which does all the necessary stuff
automatically and I never heart of problems with that process.
