Did the alsa source RPM's really rebuild correctly? "depmod -ae" gave me unresolved symbols for snd.o.
The workaround was to rename /usr/src/linux-2.4.20-18.9/include/linux/workqueue.h to workqueue.h_orig. Then then the alsa RPM's built correctly. There appears to be some 2.5.x kernel stuff backported into 2.4.20 that causes build problems.
Hope this helps - Bob Arendt

I have a Dell 4600c on which I have installed RH9. This machine has and Intel 82801 EB AC'97 Audio system. The RH9 system does not successfully probe this card. I have tried the latest SRPMS for ALSA I could find from freshrpms.net and I also tried building the latest linux drivers for this chipset from Intel. I have not been able to get sound working on this machine. Does anyone have ideas on what I should try next? (In my previous attempts at bringing up sound I did change the vol, pcm and cd levels from their muted initial state and still no sound). Sound appears to attempt to come up (the /proc/asound filesystem is created and the only message logged is

My /etc/modules.conf file is:

Any help will be greatly appreciated.
