Did you check the /etc/fstab to see if there was an entry for /dev/sga?
That's the first thing I would do. My suggestion, though: look through the]
shrike-list archives. I'm pretty sure that those who had problems of this
nature discussed it and found a solution.

(replying to the original poster WRT burning CD's with the "burn:///"
feature:)
 In any case, I generally use X-CD-Roast, GnomeToaster, G-Combust,
or K3B  .. even KOnCD ...to erase / burn CD's.

The consensus seems to have been that magicdev was more of 
an annoyance than anything else.
