Hello,
This is probably a weird question, but i've got a collection of mp3's,
branching off from /home/mp3 and in to different folders. I want to
recursively take them, and reencode them with a higher bitrate. Is this
doable or do i have to rerip them?

You can probably do that, but it won't be much use - once the information is lost, it's lost.

So yes, re-ripping them at the higher rate is the key.
