Don't upgrade your currently running kernel.  Just install the new
kernel to test and see what happens.  That way you have a
good/production kernel to fall back on in case of problems, as my case
is now.

I got errors during boot with radeon stuff and gpm stuff (mouse always
never detected and X wouldn't run).

Use rpm -ivh new-kernel.rpm and  you might need Arjan's other files in
his dir to meet install requirements.
