2.5/2.6 kernels and gnome-terminal

Whenever I run ls command in a directory with lots of files (/usr/lib for
example) it gets stuck and gnome-terminal starts consuming about 80% of CPU.
Same happens when I run make menuconfig to configure kernel. It doesn't
happen with xterm or konsole or with 2.4 kernels. Anyone else see similar
behavior?
