I had similar problems with my ASUS board.  I had to disable PNP.  Once
I did that, everything went smoothly.  I have the ASUS A7M266-D.  I was
in a in a bit of panic when I tried to setup 7.3.  Nothing went right. 
Reconfigured the bios and everything went all right.  On RH 9 now.
