RE: Squid start-up

I had the same problem with Squid and Redhat 9. I had to define
visible_hostname "yourhostname" in squid.conf since my machine is on my
private lan behind a cable modem, It does not like unqualified hostnames. I
never had this prob with RH 8. That should fix the start up.

Subject: Squid start-up

When I start squid (for example by Webmin) I get the following message:

> Executing /etc/rc.d/init.d/squid start ..

>init_cache_dir /var/spool/squid... /etc/rc.d/init.d/squid: line 162: 2871
Abortito $SQUID -z -F -D 2>/dev/null
>Avvio di squid: /etc/rc.d/init.d/squid: line 162: 2872 Abortito
$SQUID $SQUID_OPTS 2>/dev/null

where abortito means abort, Avvio di means start of , and Fallito means
Failed.

I installed only Squid RPM directly downloaded from ftp.redhat.com

Tnx Antonio
