java causing severe system load

I installed sun java j2re1.4.1_02 .

When running a Web applet "DRAWBOARD" on my system it loads up the CPUs and eventually gets very hot. Running the same applet from Windows boxes does not have the same result. Also, even after leaving the website mozilla keeps java_vm loaded and it continues to load the system until totally closing mozilla.

It doesn't seem like running a little java drawing program should should use so much juice.

Any insights on this?

Thanks,
Joshua
