Thanks for mentioning apcupsd. I should mention that the nut packages that
comes with RH9 works fine with APC UPSs. I used the newapc driver. My
problems were due to confusion about which config file to edit (the Red
Hat Way is to use /etc/sysconfig/ups, not /etc/ups/ups.conf) and the cable 
that I was using.
