Try the following:

1. Install Xnest.  You can get an rpm from rpmfind.net

2. Run "gdmsetup".  This will require the root password.
On the "general" tab, set "remote" to "graphical greeter".  On the XDMCP
tab, enable XDMCP.

3. run the following command:
Xnest :1 -indirect localhost

This will open a new X session in a window.  You can now use the GIMP or
some other tool to grab a screenshot.

When you finish, you will probably want to disable XDMCP again.
