I don't think that's it, since it works (and has worked) fine up until now. Also, it works without complaint in single processor mode.

it sounds like it might be more of a harddrive problem, i've also seen that when the drive heats up.

I have an old HP vectra (dual P133) machine and was running the SMP kernel fine under 7.2, but since upgrading to 9, I get "hda: lost interrupt" messages during the boot process. It gets about as far as mounting / and then the error just repeats and repeats. I believe it is still trying to work around the error, but it's unable to make any progress.

At any rate, I'm reduced to running with only one CPU right now and REALLY need the second one to make this box usable. Any ideas?
