Not sure how your installation failed, but the "everthing" install that I do 
across 10~15 sytems a day each get cvs and gcc.  Mount the CD, and run: rpm 
-ivh /mnt/cdrom/RedHat/RPMS/rpmyouwanttoinstall.rpm
