RE: Freeze of RH9 on Dual Athlon in SMP mode

Have you tried MSI's K7D's new version 1.82 BIOS??

http://www.msi.com.tw/program/support/bios/bos/spt_bos_detail.php?UID=73&NAM
E=MS-6501

I'm personally not going to bother. But you may have better luck. I know
that the 1.5 version BIOS still had the same issues. And since I tried for
almost 3 months, trying to get it to work with Linux, without it having to
hard lock the system all the time, and at random intervals. I'm happy with
the Tyan board. And I'm going to stick to it, now that everything is working
as it should have with the K7D. I don't know WHY, but the hangs and lockups
only appear to happen with the SMP version (Build) of Linux. The single CPU
version seemed to work ok, but that defeats the purpose of having two CPU's
if you can't use them.

Cheers,

Wolf

Thanks for your input, even though it's sad reading for my wallet. I would
be interested to see if _anybody_ has been able to use this board with
Linux. Over at MSI's disussion forum there seems to be plenty of problems
with the board and Linux as well.
