PS: If i don find a solution, I am thinking to install red hat 8 now on this 9. Will i loose all my previous data?
when I upgraded 7.3 to 9 I did nt loose anything but will I now loose?
Going from 9 to 8 will not fix your dns configuration issues, but you wil introduce bugs and too many obsolete programs.
There is no reason to nuke RH 9 - dns is working for many people, yours is a simple problem; if I could log into your system it would be fixed in 5 minutes.
It looks as though your dhcp server is telling clients to use "127.0.0.1" as the primary dns server - oops, not too swift, the dhcp server was apparently set up with the assumption that every client is running a local dns server.
So, the easiest workaround is to install the following RH 9 packages:
bind-9.2.1-16 bind-utils-9.2.1-16 caching-nameserver-7.2-7
Then when the dhcp server tells you to use localhost for dns, you'll be good to go.
