I am not sure of what you are trying to do now.  If you are trying to
get one workstation to have DNS, then you are going about this all
wrong.  You only need to edit one file, /etc/resolv.conf and add in your
dns info from your ISP and that is it.  Your domain to search, and a
couple or three nameservers, just like the format below..

search isp.domain.com (or use the dns server name)
nameserver 1.2.3.4
nameserver 1.2.4.5

THAT IS IT!!  YOu do NOT need to start some service if your only setting
up a workstation to allow dns use.  Now, if you are trying to setup DNS
for an internal network or something, that is a whole different issue.
