Mount an LVM snapshot of an ext3 fs?

Does anyone know how to mount an LVM snapshot of a volume with an ext3
fs? All I get is:

EXT3-fs: INFO: recovery required on readonly filesystem.
EXT3-fs: write access unavailable, cannot proceed.

With RHL 8.0, I could at least mount the snapshot as ext2, but that
gives:

EXT2-fs: lvm(58,6): couldn't mount because of unsupported optional features (4).

I used LVM snapshots for backups, so I'm not backing up changing files.
Any suggestions?

I don't speak for anybody but myself - that's enough trouble.
