Well,
CUPS is installed, so I tried to switch and it could not find the printer at all.
I also tried LPR. Same as with LPD, can print from KWord, but not OOo or Abi.
I'm stumped and getting more frustrated by the minute here...

I don't know if I can reverse anything and I don't know how to check what was updated, although I am certain that there is a log somewhere I could check, I don't know where it is....(anyone?)

Incidentally, a bloke on the K12ltsp list reports having a similar problem with printing from OOo, but he is using an entirely different printer with CUPS.
I still don't think it can be an application specific problem, though, since I could previously print from Abi, but can't now, as well.
Can I be having a problem from having LPD, LPR and CUPS installed?
I think CUPS may have gone through an update recently, but I hadn't been using it.

I dunno, I wonder if there was a change to enscript or ghostscript, upon which my driver depends, although, it would seem that an interruption of the driver would preclude printing from KWord, which seems to work fine...I'm lost.
Incidentally, upon further testing it seems that I can not print from Mozilla or the Gimp, either.
Why will KWord print but nothing else will?
this is maddening...
