Basically edit /etc/usb.usermap identifing the device and tell it what script to run. Put the script in /etc/hotplug/usb

Thomas, I've been looking for a solution along the lines you describe.
If you have a moment, could you go into more detail about how to go
about doing what you describe?

Which one, autofs or hotplug?
