Not really corruption, most likely the download didn't finish.  And yes,
in the archives there have been some dial up users complaining about that
(and the lack of a resume feature).  You might want to look at downloading
the larger RPMs using curl or wget and telling up2date where to find them
(or drop them in /var/spool/up2date).

No, you connect to the same server if you are using a demo account or a
paid account.
