That conclusion is beyond me. A DB_PAGE_NOTFOUND error is harmless?
A fatal bug doesn't need RPM to hang. It can corrupt the database or
cause abnormal program termination.

Please try

  rpm -vv --rebuildb

and then try installing a package again. Find other trouble-shooting
guides at http://www.rpm.org
