That's correct. The INK tanks are separate for each colour. But when one needs to replace the Head(s). You need to do it in one hit. But I have not come across that yet. At least not with the last two Canon models I've used (BJC-3000 and the S830D). I did have to do it with a model before that (BJC-4210S) because I chose to refill the ink tanks, and which resulted in head problems. Though some other manufacturers build the print heads into the cartridge, if I'm not mistaken, and if memory serves me right... The selling point WRT the Canon line, is that the colours are in *individual* cartridges, so one need only replace / refill that colour, rather than replace an entire colour cartridge.
