Re: Java installation secret?

Grab Java 1.4.2 from Sun -- it's just been released (well, within the last week or so). Get the RPM and install that rather than any other form. Then

ln -s \
../../../java/j2sdk1.4.2/jre/plugin/i386/ns610-gcc32/libjavaplugin_oji.so \
/usr/lib/mozilla/plugins/lib

Note the "ns610-gcc32" directory. There's another directory for non-gcc 3.2.2. I'm currently running Mozilla 1.4-11 from Rawhide, but I believe that this will also work with the standard 1.2.1 (I ran 1.4.2 beta with 1.2.1). 1.4.2 is significantly faster than 1.4.1 as well.

Is there some last manual step needed to make Java work with Mozilla? I
have Sun's j2sdk1-4.1_03-fcs and the latest mozilla-1.4-11 from rawhide
installed, but whenever I encounter a Java applet on a web site I get a
"Default Plugin" advisory window that says:

"This page contains information of a type (application/x-java-vm) that
can only be viewed with theappropriate Plug-in."

What's the secret to getting Java to work with Mozilla?
