If I remember correctly I filed a bugzilla report for this problem about a year ago when we were all using phoebe. (Also, if I remember correctly Mike Harris replied that this was an 'upstream' problem and I should report it there, which I am sorry to say, I failed to do). It seems to be 'nv' driver and possibly XFree86-4.3 related. I have this problem with the 'nv' driver on a i8100 and i8200 with the GeForce 2 Go and the GeForce 440 Go (under Phoebe, Shrike and Mandrake 9.1). It also happens when you use the '(blue) Fn - battery' and '(blue) Fn - setup' key combinations you have on the dell inspirons to see battery status and access the bios setup. This is a "new" problem. I didn't have it with previous versions of XFree and 'nv' driver. And it is quite possible that it disappears if you use the 'nvidia' driver. I have not checked yet to see if it also happen when you switch to an external CRT/LCD and back. It is indeed very irritating to have to use 'Ctrl-Alt-F1', 'Ctrl-Alt-F7' all the time so maybe some action should be undertaken again. Alexander
