Just an added thought for you.  I always use RCS to manage my config
files.  I check in the original before editing and then after each edit
or change.  That way if something or someone alters it I can do a diff
and revert back to my copy if I need to.  It is really pretty simple and
I'm suprised that more admins don't use tools like RCS or CVS in this
way.
