Both CRT and SVIDEO are connected on a ATI Radeon 8500 using the Shrike XFree86 4.3.0 radeon driver. X will not come up unless I unplug SVIDEO and reboot the box. log and config: http://jimcable.home.mindspring.com/rh9/XF86Config http://jimcable.home.mindspring.com/rh9/XFree86.0.log doc: http://www.xfree86.org/4.3.0/radeon.4.html XFree86 4.2 had Option "CrtScreen" that worked around this behavior and I could always leave the SVIDEO connected. This option is not found in 4.3. Now I don't really mind that SVIDEO doesn't work with the radeon driver (see my workaround below), but I do mind having to reboot every time that I forget to unplug the bloody SVIDEO cable and want to use the radeon driver. So after spending two days juggling Options in XF86Config, I have placed my hopes on a patch that will free me from evil reboots. QUESTION: Is it possible to patch around this behavior (or even get CRT + SVIDEO out working) in xc/programs/Xserver/hw/xfree86/drivers/ati/radeon_driver.c? Thanks, Jim WORKAROUND ATI Radeon 8500 CRT + SVIDEO does work using fbdev at 800x600 1) grub.conf> append "vga=788" to the kernel line 2) XF86Config>Device>Driver = "fbdev" 3) XF86Config>Screen>Display>Depth 16 4) XF86Config>Screen>Display>Modes "800x600" This configuration works great for playing video/dvd from xine. BTW vga=788 is the only mode that seems to work. vga=789 causes the colors to shift blue on both CRT and SVIDEO. Using vga=791 and vga=792 causes SVIDEO to go blank. 1024x768 SVIDEO works in windows so ATI must be doing some magic in their driver. I haven't tried radeonfb yet. Perhaps it will work at 1024x768.
