The colours are set in /etc/DIR_COLORS or /etc/DIR_COLORS.xterm and are
imported into your shell via /etc/profile.d/colorls.sh or
/etc/profile.d/colorls.csh. The non-xterm colours are brighter than the
xterm ones, so if your xterm sessions seem dark you may want to delete
/etc/DIR_COLORS.xterm.
