Evoluton using a proxy server

I'm trying to get evolution to use a proxy server, I've tried both
setting the network proxy settings under preferences, and doing as this
ximian help says.

http://support.ximian.com/cgi-bin/ximian.cfg/php/enduser/std_adp.php?p_sid=HyhmZxHg&p_lva=&p_faqid=159&p_created=1016031733&p_sp=cF9ncmlkc29ydD0mcF9yb3dfY250PTEmcF9zZWFyY2hfdGV4dD1wcm94eSZwX3NlYXJjaF90eXBlPTQmcF9wcm9kX2x2bDE9MiZwX3Byb2RfbHZsMj1_YW55fiZwX2NhdF9sdmwxPX5hbnl_JnBfc29ydF9ieT1kZmx0JnBfcGFnZT0x&p_li=

And if I watch tcpdump when I try to get the summary it's still trying
the local DNS server and not going to the proxy.

I tried both gconftool-1 and gconftool-2 both to the same effects.

The proxy is running on port 3128 and uses authentication if that makes
any difference.

What else can I try?
