Someone mentioned a while ago that several packages fail to work
properly when the associated -devel packages, containing the .la files,
aren't installed. I'm looking in to this myself so that any installs I
do in the near future don't come with any surprizes.
Can anyone name a specific package or function that doesn't work when
the .la files are missing? Is there an open bugzilla report on this?
