This is not anything you should try out like a hacker. Consult the
manual or specifications for your CD-writer to see whether it
supports DAO mode.

But try: cdrecord -v -pad dev=0,0,0 shrike-i386-disc1.iso

And then see whether you are able to read back the ISO image with

  dd if=dev/cdrom of=image.iso bs=2048 count=326656

or "readcd" and function "11" or check it directly with:

  dd if=dev/cdrom bs=2048 count=326656 | md5sum
