As mentioned above, I added the definition as a _comment_ only.

With earlier versions of the distribution, /usr/lib/rpm/redhat/rpmrc was not available. But the "debuginfo" stuff is defined in there. That's why I got "-g", but not debuginfo support.
Try not including anything specifically. I don't, and everything works as expected.
