-g in RPM_OPT_FLAGS

Quick question for those that have played with "Shrike" already
and may have looked into this.

Why does rpmbuild compile with GCC option -g by default?
(this is configured in /usr/lib/rpm/rpmrc)

I've thought it is only enabled for beta versions and disabled
for final releases? Am I wrong?
