The kernel-source rpm (not .src.rpm) is a pre-patched version of the Linux
source code used to compile the Red Hat kenrel. There are even the config
files used for various versions of the kernel in the configs/ dir.

When you install the kernel-source rpm, it creates a symlink,
/usr/src/linux-2.4 that points to the actual dir of /usr/src/linux-2.4.<rest
of version>.
