I have a fairly high bandwidth site that I will be happy to open up to FTP access to the ISO's for RH9. I need to know if I am allowed to re-distribute them in such a way. Once I get that OK I will open it up
Just read the EULA included on the ISOs, which are the same ISOs that will be made available freely on Monday. Hint, hint. ;)
So, any RH personnel here to let me know officially that this is OK?
I doubt you are going to get a go-ahead on this until Monday morning, when all of the other FTP mirrors will be opened. The restriction on FTP access is geared towards encouraging more users to purchase paid subscriptions to RHN and to allow those paid users to experience less congestion during downloads. During the 8.0 release, RHN paid subscribers had to compete with non-paying customers and having a paid RHN account wasn't an advantage. This time around having a RHN paid account is an advantage, but it appears that more people paid up than Red Hat had projected and this sent them scrambling for more bandwidth to cover the demand. It's great news that so many people want to pay Red Hat for these services b/c that helps open source development, but it also puts a lot of pressure on Red Hat to make sure those new customers aren't disappointed with their purchase. Heck, it's only been 2 days since the ISOs were posted. They still have 5 more days to exclusively serve RHN paying customers.
