I'm a bit confused about the updated kernels that Redhat supplies. For example they've just released these for RedHat 8.0: 2.4.18-27.8.0 (on Monday) 2.4.20-18.8(on Tuesday) Well I thought I had already put on the 2.4.18-27.8.0 version a while ago, and right enough when I look more closely, it says: Issue date: 2003-03-17 Updated on: 2003-06-02 It looks like there are two kernels being developed and supported, that is, 2.4.18 kernels AND 2.4.20 kernels. Is this correct? Are these 2 issued about the same time because similar bugs have been found in each? Also why is the new 2.4.18-27.8.0 kernel not got a different number, like 2.4.18-28.8.0?? Normally I would keep 2 kernels on my servers and these would be the the 2 most recent kernels, like 2.4.20-13.8 and 2.4.20-18.8, but since I recently discovered that the 2.4.20-13.8 broke my raid management software, I am now thinking that I should keep the 2.4.18 type kernels as well as the 2.4.20 ones, though my feeling is that I should be using the 2.4.20 kernels rather than the 2.4.18 ones. Thanks in advance for any useful information on this.
