Intranet Server Problem

Hello,

I have an Intranet server running RedHat 8 and Apache version 2.0.40. I am running a 2.4.20 kernel from kernel.org.

I am having problems with this server. The server will run fine when it is not being used but as soon as I put it on line it crashes with in a week. The server itself is a Compaq DL360. The server is being used to serve a school district Intranet.

I have been told that when it went down the first time that it would not accept any network connections. When I was on the server's console I could connect out but not in. When I rebooted it, the server would work fine.

The second time it went down the I was told that the server would not work, then it would work, and then it would not work.

Also when I was working at the server's console, I gave the server an ifdown command and I was booted out of the console and back to a login. I was also doing some research on rsync so I could update the /var/www/http directory off the old server (the old server is up and running now) and when I was using the info command tty1 locked up. I had to reboot to get it back.

Does anyone have any suggestions, ways I could troubleshoot it and load test it.

Before it crashed I had 7 TX-OVRs show when I ran netstat -i.

I have been sending large files (about 400 megs in size) in multiples across from the server and I cannot get any errors.

Thanks for any help.

Mike
