My late discovery is the "smtp.server" seems not working
# telnet smtp.server.com 25 telnet: smtp.server.com: Name or service not known smtp.server.com: Unknown host
Do you know how advise how to fix it.

Have you checked to see if you have network routes set up on your server? What is the output of "netstat -rn" ?
There should be a GATEWAY=nnn.nnn.nnn.nnn line in your /etc/sysconfig/network file that lets your server know when to send all the traffic destined outside of your network.
