Often a Winmodem shares hardware (and IRQ's) with the sound card.  The
PC-Tel drivers at www.linmodems.org have or had a problem where the modem
would sometimes incorrectly issue a reset and freeze the sound card.

Not sure what that would be.  In my case, /etc/modules.conf does alias
eth0 to the correct driver for the ethernet NIC, but that doesn't
alleviate the confusion in suspend/restore.  I think there's something
about the order in which the modules get loaded/reloaded.

I think that would be an APM setting in your BIOS or apmd in Linux.
