Do you know what packages were updated then? Play with the query format option and sort to get the last packages installed.
(Someone on the list probably knows teh correct options)

Since this is StarOffice, what does Sun say? After all you paid them for support :)
You might also have better luck with the OO.org lists. If you file the bug and attach the SO/OO version and the bad excel version somone there can probably figure out what is broken.
